Fiverr book trailers: what $200 buys, and the alternative
A book trailer from a freelancer on Fiverr or Upwork usually costs $30 to $200 and arrives in two to seven days. At that price nobody films or draws anything: most sellers now make trailers with AI video tools, and the rest assemble stock footage in a template. With Nima's Long-form Video you use that kind of tool yourself, on your actual pages. It draws your characters, gives each one a voice and animates the scene with them speaking the book's own lines. The first trailer is free, longer films are made on a monthly plan by the minute from as low as $10 per finished minute, and the money you keep is better spent boosting the trailer as an Instagram reel.
Your first trailer is free.
What up to $200 buys
| What is sold | Typical price | What is in it | Delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freelancer, 30-second trailer | $30 to $50 | Stock or AI-generated clips, your cover, captions, music | 2 to 3 days |
| Freelancer, 60-second trailer | $35 to $120 | More footage, sometimes a script | 2 to 4 days |
| Freelancer, top tiers, 90 seconds to 2 minutes | $70 to $200 | A script, sometimes a voice-over | 3 to 7 days |
| Freelancer, children's book trailer | $40 to $195 | Your own illustrations panned and moved, captions, music | 2 to 7 days |
| Nima Long-form Video | Free trailer, then plans by the minute from as low as $10 per finished minute | Your own characters drawn, voiced and speaking the book's lines, in widescreen and vertical | Starts when you paste your text |
The freelancer rows are the tiers of the best-selling book trailer listings on Fiverr as we read them. The category held 1,275 listings in December 2025, and the median starting price among the top 48 was $40. Of 45 prices that buyers reported in reviews, 42 were $200 or less. Upwork works the other way round, the author posts the job and freelancers bid, and the budgets match: one job we saw for a novel's trailer offered a fixed $200.
What you do not get at that price
- Your characters. None of the top listings we read offered characters who speak, or the same characters from one shot to the next. The figure in a stock or generated clip is not your heroine, and she changes between cuts.
- Your dialogue. Where there is a voice, it is one narrator reading a blurb, and in several listings the voice-over costs extra or sits in the top tier.
- Someone who has read the book. The seller works from your blurb and a few lines of brief, with a queue of other orders behind yours.
- Room to change your mind. Revisions are counted, from one to eight depending on the tier, and each one is a message and a wait.
Most sellers use AI video anyway
Most sellers now make book trailers with AI video tools, whether or not the listing says so. The arithmetic allows nothing else: at $30 to $200, delivered in a few days alongside other orders, the seller is operating software, not filming actors or drawing frames.
There is nothing wrong with that. But it means part of what you pay for is somebody typing a summary of your book into a tool, and they have not read your book. You have. You know what your heroine looks like, which line carries the scene, and when a voice is wrong.
If you do hire, ask before you order: do you use AI tools, and will the same characters appear in every shot?

And you choose the look. Every picture below is from a film or a look sheet made this way:

Sherlock Holmes, The Red-Headed League

Little Women

The Red-Headed League, in ink

Anna Karenina, the look sheet

The Three Musketeers

Frankenstein
The trailer at the top of this page was made this way too, from chapter five of The Three Musketeers: five characters, five voices, every line Dumas's own.
Spend the money on being seen
A trailer earns nothing until readers see it, and a hired trailer has used up the budget before the marketing starts.
Films made this way travel. Our own posts have reached more than 200,000 views within a few days, and the Three Musketeers trailer at the top of this page drew 20,000 views on its first day.
So if you have $200 set aside for a book trailer, make the trailer yourself and put the money behind it. Post it as an Instagram reel and boost it to readers of your genre. The same $200 that buys one stock-footage trailer from a freelancer buys your own animated trailer and an audience for it.
How to make it yourself
- Paste your pages. Open Long-form Video and paste the scene, chapter or short story you want filmed, between 150 and 10,000 words. Nima reads it, maps the scenes, the cast and the places, and asks before it cuts anything.
- Pick a look. Detailed claymation, felted wool, comic book ink, acid pencil, which is coloured pencil, or paper love, which is cut paper. Nima can draw your lead character and your main location in all five so you compare them side by side.
- Approve the cast and the places. Every character is drawn once, from the descriptions in your text, and every location is built once as a set. Leave a note on any picture and Nima redraws it.
- Pick the voices. Each speaking character gets five voice auditions, each one reading a line from your book. Choose the one that sounds like the person you wrote.
- Watch your free trailer. Nima cuts a trailer of 15 to 20 seconds from your text: several of its places and people, two or more of your lines spoken word for word, music under it, your title at the end. You see it first as a storyboard with the voices, give one round of notes, then start a free 7-day trial and it is fully animated. Nima emails you when it is ready.
- Make the film, if you want more. Pick a plan, metered in minutes of finished film, and Nima films the text scene by scene. You review a full draft with the voices, leave notes in each round your plan includes, then approve the render. The finished film is yours to download and share with a link.
When hiring a person is the right call
- You want live action. Actors, a crew and a director are a production company's work, and the price starts in the thousands. See what a book trailer costs.
- You want a non-fiction trailer that is your cover, three claims and a call to action. A template edit does that well.
- You want nothing to do with it. If you would rather pay than spend an evening choosing a look and listening to voices, a freelancer saves you the evening.
And if you want a person involved without leaving Long-form Video, ask us. A title card for your book, your own artwork or your own voice are available on request.
Formats and extras
Films come in widescreen and in vertical, so the same trailer fits YouTube and your book page as well as TikTok, Reels and Shorts. Music can be added. A title card for your book, your own artwork for the characters and your own voice for the narration are available on request. Write to hello@nima.mov and tell us what you need.
Common questions
How much does a book trailer cost on Fiverr?
Most cost $30 to $200. Among the top book trailer listings we read, the median starting price was $40 for a 30-second stock-footage trailer, 60 seconds ran $35 to $120, and the top tiers reached $200. Of 45 prices buyers reported in reviews, 42 were $200 or less.
Do Fiverr sellers use AI to make book trailers?
Most do, whether or not the listing says so. At $30 to $200 the work is a clip generated with AI video tools or stock footage assembled in a template, not filming or hand animation. Ask the seller before you order.
Is a Fiverr book trailer worth it?
It is worth it if a stock-footage trailer with your cover and a few captions is what you want and you would rather not make it yourself. It will not show your own characters or have them speak. For that, Nima's Long-form Video animates a scene from your own pages, and the first trailer is free.
What is the alternative to hiring someone for a book trailer?
Make it yourself with a tool built for it. In Nima's Long-form Video you paste a scene, pick a look, approve the characters it draws and choose their voices. It animates the scene with the characters speaking the book's lines. No video skills are needed.
How much does it cost to hire someone on Upwork for a book trailer?
Budgets for a single book trailer on Upwork sit in the same range as Fiverr listings, tens of dollars to a few hundred. One job we saw for a novel's trailer offered a fixed $200.
What is the best way to spend $200 on a book trailer?
Make the trailer yourself and spend the money on reach. Nima's Long-form Video gives you a free animated trailer, and longer films are made on a monthly plan by the minute from as low as $10 per finished minute. Post it as an Instagram reel and put the rest of the budget into boosting it to readers of your genre.
Can I make a book trailer myself with no video experience?
Yes. Long-form Video asks for decisions, not skills: which look, whether each character looks right, which voice fits. You paste text and leave notes; there is no timeline to edit.
